Merit Certificates
Torbay Civic Society occasionally issues a Merit Certificate. These are awarded to a developer or a builder when they have enhanced our built environment through either a conversion or redevelopment project.
Merit Certificates Awarded:
Prior to the year 2000 Certificates Merit Certificates were awarded to the following:
- Victorian Arcade in Torwood Street
- Torquay Pavilion revamp in the first stage
- Redevelopment of Hollicombe Gardens
- Dower Court, Torquay Road, Preston Paignton
- Old Brewery Complex Paignton
- Old Steartfield Coach House redevelopment
- Wells Street, Paignton development
From the year 2000 Certificates awarded are:
- 2002 – Midas Homes Ltd for development of a derelict site, formerly Clarence Hotel, Newton Road, Torquay into a modern residential apartment building
- 2006 – Mount Howe Construction Ltd for rebuilding Pennys Cottages, Pennys Hill, Torquay after a fire had completely gutted the thatched dwellings on the site
- 2011 – Sanctuary Group and Torbay Council for the building of Dunboyne Court, St Marychurch Road, Torquay into apartments for supported retirement living
- 2012 – Nicolas James Group for the restoration and refurbishment of Lincombe Manor, Middle Lincombe Road, Torquay into the Westcountry’s first Care Village
- 2020 – Renaissance Cavendish Retirement Living, Hr Downs Rd, Babbacombe
